Arioso
Between warm-ups, rehearsals, and dress fitting, arioso is a fun and
challenging class. The all girl class is made up of 55 girls, ranging
from sophomores to seniors. In the class the girls sing in two and three
part harmony, rounds, and a capella. Arioso is taken second and third
trimester, and you must try out to be a member of the class.
This choir was created in the year 1995-1996. The reason for this choir
was formed was because too many talented young women tried out for concert
choir and there wasn’t enough spaces for each girl to occupy. Once
the class was created the girls were asked to think of a name for their
choir. Many names were selected, but Arioso (meaning a short melody) was
the name voted overall.
“Arioso was a great experience to prepare for Concert Choir and
Madrigals.” says one of the original first members of the Arioso,
who helped this class get on its feet. This class is a great way to learn
how to blend and harmonize and with all different types of voices and
music. Sight reading and being able to read and understand music is an
important aspect to have in this class. “It is fun to be able to
open a piece of music, sight read it and have it sound good,” comments
Mary Yates a first year Arioso.
Arioso is an excellent way to meet girls who have the same talents and
interests as you. “We enjoy the girl talk,” replied Sharlene
Mackley when asked what she likes about Arioso. If one thing or person
is wrong, the girls all work together to solve and in prove the problem
and become a team to make the black notes on the paper music.

Arioso show their hard work in the performances they sing in.
Their different styles of songs keep their audience alert and interested.
Jenny Harrison says, “I like when we perform and the audience
applauds to our hard efforts. It shows they appreciate out time
and abilities we put into our singing.”
In conclusion, Arioso is a wonderful, growing experience. The Arioso
work hard for their achievements, but have fun in doing so. If you
enjoy singing, learning and laughing, this class is for you! Shauna
Robertson added in this last remark, “Arioso is great! The
only thing that would it better would be BOYS!!”
