            The Tiger-Grizz wrestling tournament is considered one of the top 12 toughest wrestling tournaments in the USA. This year 35 teams came from Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, and host Idaho. The competition is the last big tournament competition for Utah wrestlers just before the upcoming region and state tournaments.   Wasatch High out of Heber, Utah continued it’s winning ways by once again claiming the team title with Jacob Salazar winning the 140 lbs. weight class as did teammate Carson Brown who won the 171 lbs. weight class. Wasatch finished the tournament 65.5 points ahead of second place Weber High out of North Ogden, Utah. A strong team from Skyview High, Idaho, finished just ahead of Box Elder, Utah to finish in third place and the highest team for host Idaho. Currently, Wasatch is the number one ranked team out of Utah, followed by Weber the number two ranked team out of Utah, and Box Elder who is the number 5 ranked team out of Utah. Idaho Falls high is the number one ranked team in Idaho and finished the tournament in 5th place.
            Finishing the tournament as champions were Shay Warren of Weber who won the 119 lbs. title with a 7-2 win over Kevin Killoy of Minico.    Abner Cook of Pocatello came from the number two seed to win the 112 lbs. weight class with a 7-4 decision over Yan Traska of Mountain View, Idaho. In the 125 lbs. weight class, the number one ranked Preston Gentry of Meridian won a close match 6-5 over Race Bowman, a local area wrestler from Snake River High. Dylan Whiting of Skyview, Idaho, winner of the outstanding wrestler in the lower weights, finished the tournament with a fall over Aaron Ross of Weber in a time of 1:13 to complete a tournament run which included an upset win over number one seed, Shawn Jones of Snake River, in the semis with a pin at the 4:33 mark. Whiting recorded 5 falls in his five matches in route to the championship win. Jake Thompson another local wrestler from Rigby High won the 135 lbs. weight class in a dominating fashion by pinning Carson Sweat of Wasatch, Utah in the title match in a time of 4:40. Adam Hall from Bonnners Ferry, the number one ranked wrestler in the country, proved his case to being the class of wrestling, as he engineered a takedown frenzy, easily winning the 145 lbs. weight class. Other winners were Tel Todd of Bozeman 152 lbs. champ, Derek Mestrovich Skyview, Idaho, at 160 lbs., Wes Cooper of Minico won the 189 lbs. weight class, James Mason of Idaho Falls decisioned Rhett Robinson of Box Elder 4-1, his opponent from last weeks Richardson Memorial wrestling tournament, and Landon Harris of Sugar-Salem won the 275 lbs. weight class.
            Box Elder had two finalist; Riley Yeates at 152 lbs. and Rhett Robinson at 215 lbs. Rhett faced off against the same opponent that he faced last week in the finals of the Richardson Memorial. Last week it went to the tie-breaker for Mason of Idaho Falls to get the win, this week in the finals Mason held a 2-1 lead going into the last 15 seconds of the match and was able to counter Robinson for a takedown and a 4-1 win. Robinson’s only two losses of the season came at the hands of Mason of Idaho Falls.
            Yeates made it to the finals of the third straight tournament this year. Yeates lost in a tight battle to Todd of Bozeman, Montana 6-3. Todd won the Rocky Mountain Rumble last week as well.
